Announcing My Candidacy

Good afternoon, friends, neighbors, and fellow citizens of Swain County.

Today, I stand before you with gratitude, humility, and determination to officially announce my candidacy for County Commissioner of Swain County in the upcoming 2026 election.

I am running because I love this county. I love the people who make it home, the families who have lived here for generations, and the new neighbors who have chosen to plant roots here. Swain County is more than just a place on a map—it is where we live, work, raise our children, and build our futures together.

But we all know there is work to be done.

Too often, our county is seen only as a tourist destination. While tourism is important, we cannot forget that Swain County is first and foremost our home. We must make this a place where our people, not just our visitors, can thrive.

That means investing in stronger infrastructure, starting with reliable internet access. In today’s world, wired broadband is no longer a luxury; it is a necessity. For our schools, for our small businesses, for working families, it is the key to opportunity. I will fight to expand broadband access across the county, so no one is left behind.

We also need to face the challenge of affordable housing. Too many families in Swain County are struggling to find homes they can afford. Young people who grow up here often find themselves unable to stay here because housing costs are out of reach. As commissioner, I will work to support smart development that keeps housing affordable for working families, while protecting the natural beauty and character of our county.

Education must also be at the heart of our vision for the future. Our children deserve the best schools, the best teachers, and the best opportunities we can provide. That means supporting our educators, strengthening our schools, and ensuring every child in Swain County has the tools they need to succeed. A strong education system is not only good for our kids, it is the foundation of a stronger economy and a healthier community.

That also means facing tough challenges like the drug crisis head-on. Drugs have hurt too many families in our community. We need prevention, treatment, and recovery programs that work—and we need to support our law enforcement and community organizations who are on the front lines of this fight.

And it means taking pride in our county. I will work to clean up our communities, keep our neighborhoods safe, and make Swain County a place we can all be proud to call home.

Above all else, I am running to represent you, us, the people of Swain County. Your voices, your struggles, and your hopes will guide me in every decision I make. I believe government works best when it not only listens to the people it serves, but is formed from the people it serves.

This is my commitment: I will go above and beyond in my responsibility as County Commissioner to make this county better, for all of us, for our children, and for future generations.

I am asking for your support—not just your vote, but your ideas, your concerns, and your partnership. Together, we can shape the future of Swain County into one that works for every family who calls it home.

Thank you, God bless you, and God bless Swain County.
