I am officially on the ballot

At just after 1pm this afternoon, I walked into the new Board of Elections office and officially submitted paperwork to appear on the March 3, 2026 primary for one of the Swain County Commissioner seats that will be up for election in November, 2026.

As commissioner, I will put the people of Swain County first. I will work to bring reliable broadband internet to every home, strengthen our schools, expand workforce opportunites, and support affordable housing so families can stay, live, and succeed here. I will confront the drug crisis with compassion and determination, supporting prevention, treatment, and recovery. I will focus on cleaning up our communities, protecting our natural beauty, and building a year-round economy, not just one built for tourists, but one that truly serves the people who call Swain County home. Above all, I will listen, be available, and work every day to make this county better for all of us.

(I swear I am doing my best to smile in this picture, I was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy on November 6th. It's a temporary disorder that causes half your face to become numb and unable to move. I have regained about 80% of my face movement and feeling. Being unable to speak clearly for the first couple weeks really taught me a lot about how much we take our voices, and communication in general, for granted, something I will not squander as commissioner. I hope this is the last time I mention this on the campaign trail.)
