I am officially on the ballot

Image
At just after 1pm this afternoon, I walked into the new Board of Elections office and officially submitted paperwork to appear on the March 3, 2026 primary for one of the Swain County Commissioner seats that will be up for election in November, 2026. As commissioner, I will put the people of Swain County first. I will work to bring reliable broadband internet to every home, strengthen our schools, expand workforce opportunites, and support affordable housing so families can stay, live, and succeed here. I will confront the drug crisis with compassion and determination, supporting prevention, treatment, and recovery. I will focus on cleaning up our communities, protecting our natural beauty, and building a year-round economy, not just one built for tourists, but one that truly serves the people who call Swain County home. Above all, I will listen, be available, and work every day to make this county better for all of us. (I swear I am doing my best to smile in this picture, I was diagno...

With SNAP funding lapsing, I urge locals to help affected locals

Image
Good afternoon Swain County, When I learned that the federal government would not guarantee SNAP benefits for the millions people in the US who depend on them to help make ends meet, I wrote an article for the Smoky Mountain Times uring our residents to help out our fellow neighbors who are affected. In Swain County alone, between 14% and 15% of our residents rely on SNAP to get by. These are our neighbors. We see them in the grocery store, in church, and elsewhere around town. These arent' some "faceless masses" they are us and we are them. So let's make sure no one goes hungry on our watch.

Talking

In the October 16th issue of the Smoky Mountain Times, they ask the candidates running for Alderman seats a series of questions. I am running for a County Commissioner seat in the November 2026 election, but I will most likely be asked these or similar questions around this time next year. So, I figured I'd get the jump on things and answer them now. Would you please introduce yourself? I am Bradley Hall. I am from Jacksonville, FL, but moved to Bryson City in June 2017. My family is originally from the Deep Creek area, and one of my relatives, Fred Hall, has a display in the fly fishing museum. My grandfather, Jim Hall, left Bryson City to go to England after WWII where he met my grandmother. My father was born in the UK and after some traveling with the military, they ended up in Jacksonville, FL. We visited Bryson City often. So, yes, I'm a transplant to Bryson City, but I feel I am a re-transplant. I'm married, no children, but we do have one Golden Retriever. What is ...

My Skills and Qualifications

I was recently asked what my skills and qualifications are to be a county commissioner here in Swain County. This was my response. I have a B.A. in Finance and years of professional experience in banking. That training means I can read a budget, spot waste, and help stretch taxpayer dollars so they deliver the biggest local impact. I’m a licensed Enrolled Agent and have represented people through tax audits, I know how to work with complicated rules, grants, and contracts and make sure the county’s finances are handled with the attention to detail they deserve. My years in banking and tax work have also been years of service: solving problems, protecting confidential information, and getting real results for everyday folks. I know how to listen and follow through. I’ve worked on grassroots field outreach that reached tens of thousands across Western NC, so I understand how to recruit volunteers, listen to residents, and turn conversations into action. I’ve served on finance commit...

Announcing My Candidacy

Good afternoon, friends, neighbors, and fellow citizens of Swain County. Today, I stand before you with gratitude, humility, and determination to officially announce my candidacy for County Commissioner of Swain County in the upcoming 2026 election. I am running because I love this county. I love the people who make it home, the families who have lived here for generations, and the new neighbors who have chosen to plant roots here. Swain County is more than just a place on a map—it is where we live, work, raise our children, and build our futures together. But we all know there is work to be done. Too often, our county is seen only as a tourist destination. While tourism is important, we cannot forget that Swain County is first and foremost our home. We must make this a place where our people, not just our visitors, can thrive. That means investing in stronger infrastructure, starting with reliable internet access. In today’s world, wired broadband is no longer a luxury; it is a ...
